What can you leave behind…Lighten your suitcase

  • Jewelry and anything expensive or fancy
  • Electricity converter (we use the same plug-ins as North America)

Food options

My favorite restaurant is Marble Hill Farms which you will pass on your way. They have really good food at reasonable prices with a full diving shop and another bar by the water.

  • La Sirena @ Camp Bay is a bit pricey but awesome spot over the water.
  • Camp Bay Lodge with beach front and full restaurant
  • Paya Bay awesome views

Our personal cook is also available with incredible menu selection (cost vary for minimum of $75 food extra including lunch and dinner service).

Currency, Cash, Credit Cards

The currency of Honduras is the Lempira, however US dollars are widely accepted on Roatan, so there’s no need to obtain Lempiras for your vacation here. If you use US dollars, make sure the bills are new or in excellent shape, as worn and torn US bills are not accepted by any banks on Roatan, so people and businesses don’t like to take them either.  It’s also a good idea to bring smaller denominations ($20 or less) versus larger bills, as change for cash purchases is typically given in Lempiras, and some businesses don’t keep large amounts of cash in hand.

ATM’s

Should you need additional cash while you’re here, there are several bank at the Mega Plaza “mall” (about 50 minutes from the Door), where Lempiras can be withdrawn from an ATM.  While there a number of ATM’s around the island, we recommend that you only use ATM’s that are located within a bank, as other machines have been subject to fraud.  Bring enough cash as you head East because there aren’t many options to obtain cash.  In perceptive, day trip to Pigeon island ranges from $350 to $500, diving cost $40 including equipment through Marbel Hills Farms.

Please be sure to inform your credit card company that you will be travelling to Honduras, in order to assure smooth processing of your transactions.
